Mountain Ash

Mountain Ash

Family Rosaceae. Mountain Ash or Rowans are small deciduous trees/shrub. Their flowers are creamy white with five petals. The fruit (berry) is most commonly bright orange or red. The Mountain Ash Berries contain high levels of Vitamin C. Native to the cool temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere.

Historical Uses

The berries are often used for making jams and their medicinal benefits. The berry has been used in folk medicine for kidney disease, menstruation disturbances, rheumatism, diabetes, improvement of metabolism and Vitamin C deficiency.

Stories & Legends

Also known as the Witchwood Tree, early 18th century Europeans thought Mountain Ash would help keep witches away.
