Argan

Argan

Family Sapotaceae. This spiny branched evergreen with plum-sized fruit, that contain 2-3 seeds at its center, and grows to 25 feet high and 40 feet wide in arrid temperatures ajoining the Sahara desert. Hydrating argan oil is derived from the kernel, inside the argan fruit, through cold-pressing and is rich in antioxidants such as omega oils, vitamin E and linoleic acid which help maintain youthful looking skin and provides environmental protection. It is Geography: Morocco.

Historical Uses

This nourishing oil (95% of it consists of fatty acids) has been popular in skincare products because it is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive and is scent free, helps seal in moisture and addresses visible signs of aging.

Stories & Legends

Goats climb the Argan trees, eat from it and spit out the seeds which help cultivate new plants, but mostly stunt the growth of the plants they are feeding on. The oil pressed from the Argan seeds has been used in Morocco since ancient times mostly as a cooking oil.
