Mother's Day is one of those holidays that holds a lot. Joy for some, grief for others, and often both at the same time. I just want to start by saying: I see you, wherever you are in that.
This year is my first Mother's Day without my mom. And honestly, I did not fully expect how much that would sit with me. She was my person in so many ways, and the absence of her is something I am still learning to carry.
But here is what I keep coming back to: she is still with me. In the way I show up for my own kids. In the things she taught me that I did not even know I had learned. In the garden, where I will be planting flowers this weekend in her honor, because that feels like the right way to hold her close.
And then I will go be with my kids. Because that is the other part of this day that fills me up in a way nothing else does.
If this weekend is a tender one for you, whether you are missing someone, navigating something complicated, or just feeling the weight of what this day means, I hope you find a small moment that brings you peace. Plant something. Call someone. Sit in the sun for five minutes.
You do not have to have it all together to have a good day.
Wishing you love and light this Mother's Day.
XO, Indie
